Welcome to the Uganda Children's Burden Centre official website

Uganda Children's Burden Centre is an indiginous Non-Governmental Organisation that was establihsed a social worker, Ronald Kezimbira Kyobe, in 2006 during the community development work in the urban poverty areas of Kampala surburbs.

Ronald came across desperate uncared for HIV/AIDS orphans, a number of whom were taken care of by single parents while others were homeless and were not taken care of, meanwhile others were internally displaced due to insurgencies by Joseph Kony in the northern part of Uganda. He then got a conviction together with his colleagues of initiating an organisation that will address the problems of orphans, single parents, children/youth with HIV/AIDS, disabbled children and other vulnerable children who need special care.

The community support programmes were born out of findings and needs assessments such as; that many single parents who had lost their partners due to HIV/AIDS didn't want their children tested for HIV/AIDS and those who knew their children's status did not want the children to go and have medication of ARVs. The fear of these parents was due to the stigma in society and even in schools where some of the children went to. It was therefore developed to address the necesary needs and to follow up the children.

The current structure is to work in partnership with the community support structures, volunteers, donors and well wishers to provide support to children exposed and infected/affected with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable children.

These community volunteers provide support to the psycho-social, emotional and the urgent health need of the children at the community level.

The community support is designed to maximise synergies with existing efforts to cater for the needs of children and families living with HIV/AIDS in attaining care in different centres and clinics.
